Visit to the Alhambra

Well, what can I add that hasn't been done better before by someone else?  Just a few of my snaps instead, from inside the vast palace-fortress.

Mosaic pavements everywhere

Overwhelming thought - What a bastard Henry VIII was keeping Katherine away from this, her childhood home.

Poqueira gorge high acequias walk

Left Trevelez in the wrong direction, so started the day with a drive through some mountain roads, past an abandoned village, which became the theme of the day really. Drove down a long dirt track to the start of the walk at another abandoned village, next to a hydro-electric power station.

A bit hazardous, these mountain roads

Heading up (&up, & up) the gorge

Note the line of the acequia all along the hillside

After reaching an "abandoned farmhouse", which was clearly occupied, the Sierra Nevada range opened out & the next couple of hours walking gave me shifting angles of this magnificent range.  I couldn't stop taking photos. An odd feeling of delight at knowing I had walked along this ridge (right to left), replaced the typical "I want to walk up there" desire.

Sierra Nevada range, mid-left far peak is Valeta, the last peak I stood on

Valeta is left, Mulcacean, furthest right

According to the guidebook "another abandoned farm"

Camino del Horcajo

Camino del Horcajo , a walk from Trevélez 20th June 2015

A day full of flowers, butterflys and paddling. Water from the acequias, sometimes overflowing or leaking, often along the path itself made this valley a verdant, late-spring water-meadow. Here's another site showing the walk

4 Day trek Sierra Nevada

These photos on Flickr were taken by our guide, Felipe. They knock the spots off my efforts, and it happens to include a substantial number of photos of me, which proves I was actually there.
